Last summer my best friend, S, convinced me we would run a half marathon together – the Disney Princess Half Marathon. Unfortunately, my asthma (and life in general) put me a bit behind that goal. I may have strayed from the goal but she has rocked on. Not one, but two half marathons under her belt in about 6 months of training. I’m so very proud of her. An achievement like that deserves personalized cheer shirts for her cheering squad.
We headed to Disney last weekend to cheer her on for this one. It was such an inspiring weekend. The Disney parks were a blast but the half marathon was amazing. Almost 20,000 women (and some token men) conquered 13.1 miles. Some ran, some walked, some ran and walked. Whatever the case, it was really motivating. A ton of them were in princess costumes – even the guys! Here are a few pictures from the weekend.
This is from first corral about to start at 5:45 AM. There were fireworks for the start of every corral to get the runners ready. It was cold and really early but watching these ladies run was inspiring. At least for me…the hubby was ready to go back to bed the whole time.
Next time, I am making matching signs and hoping that Disney allows for the spectators to cheer from more locations. Maybe I will also be awake enough at 5am to take pictures of us in our shirts. We were all way too sleepy to remember that morning.
Any runners out there? I’m a proud walker/super slow jogger and if I can keep my pace up I’ll get the medal by walking the whole thing. There is no shame in that!

I’ve never even heard of this fantastic sounding event. I love that some people ran in costumes, so fun – and the medals are just great (tshirts too).
I don’t run but I can cheer with the best of them π

How cool! If I were ever to run a marathon or half-marathon, that might be it, but that’s never going to happen. I hate running! π

I’m a walker/slow jogger too. Every time I try to train for a race something happens. Maybe next year?

Okay, I’ve never really run in my entire life unless you count pretending in phys ed in high school, but if I was FORCED to run a marathon, I’d totally want to do it in Disney. Love that place. And I definitely though your post title meant you had thrown a Disney princess movie marathon and wondered why I wasn’t invited. π See, that’s where my brain goes when I think of “marathon.” Movies.

What a fun experience, even if you didn’t get to run. Heck, there’s always next year.

I’m a wanna be runner that probably does more jogging than actual running. I also quit completely for the winter because it’s cold, snow covered or icey most of the time and I don’t want to run that badly. Love those shirts, she must have been so happy to have you there cheering her on!

We also went to Disney as our 2 daughters were running. We had lots of opportunities to see the girls along the route. I made hand painted neon signs and they were able to spot us before we saw them. We started at Epcot at 4am and took the monorail to the transportation center. It was drizzling but we were able to stand under cover. This was at the 4 mile point. We saw them and then got back on the monorail and went outside Epcot at the 12 mile point. We stood at a spot that was not crowded and got to see them again. Then we walked over to the almost finish line where we all met up. It was so much fun and yes, we also were exhausted. With a little planning, there are plenty of viewing spots to see the runners. And the neon signs were great! I hope you had fun also. Love reading your blog!
