After my mini-meltdown at IKEA last Thursday night, I was dead set on making sure this project got off the ground this weekend. I did a solo trip to IKEA on a Sunday afternoon. I will never recommend that to anyone. Our IKEA is a good 30 – 45 minutes away, it was packed, the boxes were heavy and those carts are impossible to maneuver. Please tell me I’m not the only one that almost wipes people out with those sideways rolling carts. They are dangerous when fully loaded with boxes. Despite the rough start, I was successful in getting the loot back home to finally tackle this IKEA hack bar.
After I put together the three cabinets, I set them where they were going to go to make sure the spacing and size worked for what I had planned. I built that cabinets myself just like I did for our kitchen. Once you figure out the instructions, they are super easy to put together. Trust me.
These are IKEA wall cabinets for the kitchen, which are meant to hang off the wall. They hang using a rail system which is really easy to use and helps make a perfect fit. After we installed the hanging rail and made sure it was level, this is what it looked like. They are hovering about 6 inches off the floor.
I put together the doors and now we have our new pretty bright blue bar!
I’m only kidding. The blue is the protective film that was covering the doors. The bar is actually just the basic gloss white IKEA cabinet doors. This is not the final product but I wanted to show what we managed to get done this weekend. It needs a countertop, handles and a few other finishing details.
Even with everything that is still left to do, the space looks so much nicer and feels so much bigger. I can’t wait to finish the IKEA hack bar and do a proper reveal.
i love the modern look of it! and the blue would have been soooo pretty… sigh. 😉 totally kidding! the white is awesome!
Wow, you rock doing that all by yourself. I totally understand what you mean about those crazy sideways carts at Ikea. Can’t wait to see the final product!!!
You are such a smarty pants. I’m jealous and want to borrow your brain.
