sponsor time: rm pottery’s studio

November 28, 2011 Leave a Comment

We were not willing to comprise much in our house search which is why it probably took us almost 2 years to find a home. Our criteria was at least a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with a pretty open floor plan and at least a 1/4 of an acre lot. The home was preferably not updated (we don’t trust the flippers that made the South Florida housing market was it was) and we were pretty set on the locations we wanted to live in. One of the most important features was a space for a ceramic studio. We were longing for a house with a garage, which is not that common in the areas we wanted to live in. So in the end that was our compromise.

Instead of a garage, Ray settled for this space for RM Pottery. A room that was the original owner’s laundry room and work shop. A much smaller space than what we had in our rental but it would have to do. These are the before and during photos.
Pretty space, right? See the duct tape around the window in the door? That was holding up a plastic sheet since there really was no window in that hole in the door, just a screen.

So Ray had fun tearing down the room and starting from scratch. After the room was painted and cleaned out completely, he set up all his equipment and shelving.

Since the space is only temporary for a few years we did plywood floors. That is just stained and sealed plywood. Cheap and functional.

This is the part he wants you all to see. His workspace…

A ceramics studio that looks like this is not meant to win any design awards. It is just a place for him to work and that is all it is meant to be for now. Tucked in the back corner is my laundry area.

Thankfully our lot is big enough that we can add on to this room. If all goes well, we’ll be able to build an addition in a few years to give the studio a great new look and with enough space that I can get a snazzy laundry room of my own.

I have some fun news too! Check back on Wednesday for an RM Pottery giveaway! You won’t want to miss it.
