I have a dear friend who has made me her party planner. She is very sneaky. She’ll ask me for my opinion on something and gets me hooked on the idea. Before I know it, I’m making all sorts of things before I have even realized what is happening. Baby shower? Done. First birthday party for her son? Done. Wedding? I have a list of to-dos to last me until their November wedding date. And yes, they did things backwards. She even told the priest I was her wedding planner before telling me! She’s lucky I love her. I don’t know why she thinks I’m qualified for all this but I’ll gladly play the game.
She decided to surprise her man with a beer tasting party this Saturday for his birthday. Of course I have been suckered in and have lots to finish before the party. He doesn’t read this blog so I’m safe to reveal the ideas. She is hosting the party at their house (funny enough their house is the first house Ray and I lived in for over 8 years!).
The main source of inspiration was this post from Decorating Obsessed. Here is a glimpse of what she did. Perfect party for the beer lover.
After my cake decorating disaster, thankfully I am not in charge of the bottle cap-shaped cake. Instead, I need to come up with:
- Happy Birthday banner in a bottle cap or beer theme
- Labels for all the food
- Labels for the assortment of beers everyone will be tasting
- Scorecards for the beers
Wish me luck. I only have a few days to finish and of course, I’ve done nothing. Procrastination is key!
Have you ever throw a beer tasting or wine tasting party? Have any last minute ideas you can share? Do you have any friends who always drag you into their crazy plans? Or am I the only lucky one 😉
now that is a party i would like to go to! i love trying new beers! i tend to love the pale ales and oktoberfest brews!
My in-laws throw a big beer tasting party every year. My mother-in-law makes a huge vat of chili and we have a bonfire for toasting marshmallows. I don’t think she’s ever made cute stuff with bottle caps though.
It would be really cool to make some labels in the shape of a beer tap…
Or, maybe some paddles (like fraternity paddles) with shot glasses full of different beers. I think they call that a flight of beers in the breweries.
Want me to come help? Sounds like my kind of party!

I think planning and hosting parties, from invitation to parting favors, is one of my most favorite things to do.
Hope you’ll share pics of the party, sounds great!
No ideas to offer, except to maybe invite all your blogger friends? 🙂
Sounds fun! We did a wine tasting party before and all the bottles had were wrapped (foil is a easy and tacky way at the last second) and numbered. It was a blind tasting I guess. I don’t know about beer though…just wine. : ) Cheese tasting is fun, too. Does that go with beer? Meat tasting? IDK!!! : )
That sounds fun! I love wine tasting parties. It is especially fun when you do a blind tasting and make people guess what each one is. Winner takes home a bottle of wine!
OMGosh, I LOOOOOVE this! I would have so much fun if I got to go to a beer tasting party… that sounds like so much fun! Can’t wait to hear what some new faves are…
I totally want to go buy a variety pack of 6 different beers from my Ingles now and have my own beer tasting party with the boyfriend, haha! : )
