let it grow – south florida landscape is ready

March 10, 2014 3 Comments

I feel like we've been playing in the dirt way too long in the house. With summer fast approaching...yes, I said summer. This is South Florida. We flew past "winter" into just about summer already - it is hot! Any way, with real summer right around the corner, it has been a top priority to get as much of the yard done as possible. And now we can reveal a pretty much done South Florida landscape. … [Read more...]

a little help from our friends – porch column cover up

February 27, 2014 2 Comments

The saga of making the front of our house presentable continues. We are not close to being done, but we've made the porch and the front of our house a goal for 2014. We've made progress with lots of paint on the brick, door & ceiling, etc. But it still needs helps. Those old scroll-like columns drive me nuts. I've lived in two old Florida homes with them and I want them gone in this house. In comes my dad who is going to help us figure out decent porch column cover ups.  … [Read more...]

the final reveal – refinishing an exposed beam ceiling

February 18, 2014 11 Comments

Finally. I  can finally say we are done with this back-breaking and tedious job. It sucked, but it is so worth it. Our exposed beam ceiling has been completely finished! Do a little dance for me. Wrapping this up gets us one step closer to finishing our family room. Let me remind you with what we started with. Old orangey stained beams, dropped ceiling tiles with a shoddy electrical throughout, and no insulation. This family room was seriously cringe worthy, but I knew it just needed (and … [Read more...]

and behind this door – florida room plans

January 22, 2014 11 Comments

I love my husband. I really do. But there are times that I want to make him sleep outside. Our family room (or Florida room because that is technically what it is) makes me want him in the yard overnight. Not even with the dogs because I would never let them sleep outside ;) The family room has been one of the projects that has slowly driven me crazy since we moved in. We've made a ton of progress from its original state but I just need it done. … [Read more...]

a little list – 2014 goals

January 13, 2014 5 Comments

Yeah, so making grand Pinterest resolutions and house goals in 2013 did very little to keep me on track last year. Slacker. I admit it. Last year was pretty freaking busy and I just never managed to get anything of note crossed off those lists. We did finish a ton of other random house projects, and our respective jobs kept us busy as can be. Enough excuses though, because this year, we are making a list and crossing things off. Have I ever told you that I write things down on my to-do lists … [Read more...]

a very delayed reveal – our diy ikea kitchen

February 26, 2013 17 Comments

When I look back at the blog, I'm quite embarrassed that it has taken us this long to reveal the kitchen. We've been in this house for 2 years this month. By blog standards, our kitchen is nothing spectacular so it really isn't an earth-shattering reveal. We have a pretty small kitchen and given the layout of our house it wasn't in the cards to change that. We went with a DIY IKEA kitchen for our renovation. Overall, we love what we were able to do on a budget and with limited space. In case … [Read more...]
