Welcome to another day in the This is Halloween Series. Are you getting ready yet? Yes, I skipped last week - it was a nutty work week, but I'm back on schedule. While this is such an easy one, I'm almost embarrassed to share it, I''m sharing it anyway, because Pottery Barn is selling a set of three for $119! Chalkboard tombstones for $119?! Not for this DIYer. Plus, any of you can do the same for a fraction of the cost. I made a bunch of tombstones last year with leftover plywood for the front … [Read more...]
request for votes – rm pottery martha stewart american made awards finalist
So this is a shameless beg for votes. My amazing husband, Ray of RM Pottery, is finalist in the Martha Stewart American Made Awards. He has an actual shot at winning in his category, which would give us a lot of publicity for his ceramics business. Can I beg you all to vote for him whenever you remember? You can vote up to 6 times a day until October 13th. Now here is the catch. Even though the site says you can register via Facebook and sign in that way, it doesn't seem to be … [Read more...]
girly girl – a colorful fabric wreath tutorial
I made a few fabric wreaths years ago for a baby shower that were an instant hit. A girlfriend of mine suckered me into doing her daughter's fifth birthday party by sending me a ton of pins of things she wanted to buy, but I knew were easy DIY projects. I'm that friend. Just show me what you want and I instantly say "I can make that!" never mind what else is going on in my life. ;) So this is my colorful fabric wreath tutorial. I used the same basics from my fabric wreath tutorial just with a … [Read more...]

Have you met Julia from Cuckoo 4 Design yet? If not, you have to check out her blog. She is the sweetest and has amazing style. If not, here is a chance to know how I ended up with 5 furry creatures I live with. Well, 6 if you count Ray, but I'm not talking about him... This post is all about how these scruffy little ones came into my life, and how I still manage to … [Read more...]
student for the day – building a diy midcentury console table – phase 1
A few weeks ago I shared I was playing student in the sculpture studio at Ray's university. Playing with major power tools is scary, but fun at the same time. Ever since we upgraded the family room sofas, I knew we needed to get a console table for the back of the sofa. We had a little c-table I made forever ago to hold a lamp and my glass of wine, but once we had the L-shaped sofa moved into the space, the table is useless for the person who sits in the coveted corner of the L. Tell me we are … [Read more...]
this is halloween – diy haunted mansion sign
Since it is no surprise that I'm a huge Halloween fan, it should be no surprise that my favorite ride at Walt Disney World is the Haunted Mansion. No matter how long the line, I must go on it at least once every time we go to Disney. Ray shakes his head every time. My employees I took to Disney in June thought, think I am crazy. I love it. It was obviously my inspiration for our DIY haunted mansion sign. I made this last year during my delinquent blogging year so I don't have photos … [Read more...]
