2012 marks the beginning of our second year in this house. Some days it feels like we have been here forever, other days I still can't believe we moved. We have made a lot of progress in the past year but there is hopefully a lot more to come in 2012. At least I really hope so. While I love the renovating, I am looking forward to a bit of a rest for the big projects. I'm going to do my best to get a good photo tour of the house in the current state done in the next few weeks. Let's hope for some … [Read more...]
lay of the land – our floor plan
I don't know about you but every time I look at the houses of bloggers if a floor plan is not available I'm always trying to figure out how the rooms are laid out. It must be the genes I get from my architect father, but I always want to know which rooms are connected to which. It really helps gauge the style of the house and flow of the design. My father might kill me for posting this horrendous floor plan but I don't have the energy to sit down and try make a perfect one. This one may be off a … [Read more...]

garden time – diy orchid garden
I love orchids. They are among my favorite flowers and they do so well in Florida so we've collected quite a few. I should correct myself…they are my husband’s orchids. I kill them. I kill all plants. Plants don’t bark or meow to remind me to feed them. My furry kids are well taken care of, spoiled actually, but plants I’m … [Read more...]
backyard progress
Summertime in South Florida equals BBQs with friends, enjoying a cold beverage in the yard when the sun and mosquitoes are not in full force. That's all lovely but there was no way that was going to happen in this house unless we took on the beast that was our yard. Let me take you back to when we first closed in late December of this past year. Our yard was looking pretty ragged. A trash pile would be the best description. A dust bowl of dead, patchy grass and a whole mess of construction … [Read more...]
another brick in the wall
The front of our house is very traditional which is not the look we are going for on the inside so I've been itching to change it. I've been saying I wanted to paint the bricks in the front for months. The hubby thought I was nuts but I found the photographic evidence I needed to show him that painting the brick was exactly the way we needed to go. Painting brick is a very controversial topic but for our style it really fits. This is what our place currently looks like complete with crazy … [Read more...]
