2012 marks the beginning of our second year in this house. Some days it feels like we have been here forever, other days I still can't believe we moved. We have made a lot of progress in the past year but there is hopefully a lot more to come in 2012. At least I really hope so. While I love the renovating, I am looking forward to a bit of a rest for the big projects. I'm going to do my best to get a good photo tour of the house in the current state done in the next few weeks. Let's hope for some … [Read more...]
refinishing an exposed beam ceiling – part 1
We are starting off the year with a big project. One that will hopefully lead a finished family room in the first half of the year. The space currently looks like this. This room was one of the biggest selling points for us. It is a massive room with tons of character which makes it great for entertaining. It had some odd features like tons of dingy painted slump brick we had to refresh and a 3 foot deep planter and fountain in the corner that we lovingly called that the litterbox that had to … [Read more...]
a simple cover up – fabric covered canvas
Do you have blank walls you have no idea what to do with? Or maybe like us, you have something you want to cover up quickly and cheaply? This is such an easy project and I'm really happy with how it came out. Looks like a nice print or painting, right? It is a fabric covered canvas. All that was needed was a canvas in the desired size, enough fabric to cover it with a few inches to spare on each side and a staple gun. This is the view of our family room towards the main part of the house. … [Read more...]
shopping list – home decor
Happy Monday! Hope you all had a lovely weekend. I have to say, mine was pretty productive. I wish I had photos to share but last night was my office holiday party and I was too lazy after indulging in all that food and wine to get anything done besides laying on the couch cuddling with my mutts.I did get some shopping in to help finish off a few rooms. I am so grateful that most of this was done with Amex Rewards gift cards. Such a nice little perk that I'm thankful to have. Two of these gray … [Read more...]
lay of the land – our floor plan
I don't know about you but every time I look at the houses of bloggers if a floor plan is not available I'm always trying to figure out how the rooms are laid out. It must be the genes I get from my architect father, but I always want to know which rooms are connected to which. It really helps gauge the style of the house and flow of the design. My father might kill me for posting this horrendous floor plan but I don't have the energy to sit down and try make a perfect one. This one may be off a … [Read more...]
another brick in the wall – painted brick
Back in September I won the Wagner Power Painter Plus from Wagner and My Repurposed Life. I shared the project reveal over there a few weeks ago but I wanted to share with you here in case you didn't make the trip over to Gail's to check it out. Our family room is covered in slump brick, a thin and uneven brick with deep grooves which makes painting it a tedious task. Since we bought this fixer upper in December of last year we have lived with the dingy painted brick that is sprinkled with … [Read more...]
