nothing done

October 28, 2011 8 Comments

Apparently my last semester of grad school is going to be the biggest time suck ever. Not that the past 17 months have been a walk in the park but these last two courses are reminding me why I’m so happy to be almost done.
I took a few days off of work this week for a mental health break. I worked on a major global project this entire year and I haven’t taken more than a Friday or Monday here and there off all year. Couple that with working almost every night/weekend and you get a very burned out Anna. I’m hoping these five days off let me regroup and get ahead of the curve for the next four weeks. Then I get to look forward to my two weeks off at Christmas that I always take.
So what do I do on my days off? Head out to the thrift store my cousin, JandJHome, recommended and come home with this little 1950s wine cabinet. Apologies for crappy photos, these are iPhone photos in hurry.

It is formica and pretty banged up in places, so I’ll be painting it and using it by the front door to store things. Don’t worry Mid Century Modern fans, it it was real wood, I would just restore it but for anything formica-made, I think paint is perfectly acceptable.
I also picked up an insane amount of paint chips. I need to decide on colors for the piece I just picked up, our family room, kitchen, possibly the dining and living room again and our exterior. Anyone want to pick out turquoise and grays for us?

Colors are off here but we are looking for true grays (some look a bit beige in this photo). Thank you to Cassie @ Primitive and Proper, for recommending Platinum from Benjamin Moore. I think that might be one of our winners.
I also spent way to much time messing around on Facebook and Pinterest. It has been relaxing so far so I hope to enjoy the rest of my days. Back to reality on Monday.
Hope you all have a great weekend. I’ll be back next week with tons of finished things. I promise. I’m using these days off to be productive starting tonight!

~Anna

Love that cabinet! I remember my id college days. ugh working on projects was the worst. I usually liked to be ahead but some girls would pretty much live in studio. We always kept a toothbrush in our marker boxes. lol! The day before I had to turn in my senior thesis my computer ate all of my CAD drawings. Tragic day for sure. Hang in there, it will be over soon enough!

Oh! I sure know how it feels to be burned out. Nothing that a little thrifting can’t fix though 🙂 Looks like you came home with a piece that has major potential!

ooh! I’m looking for a grey too, I’ll have to save that one. I always like Dorian Grey by SW (for the name as much as the color). Great find at the thrift store! Shopping always makes me feel better

Looks like a fun project! The pile of paint swatches reminds me of all my projects – I have the worst time committing to just one color. Good luck!

Ooh, fun find! I don’t like choosing paint colors. I waffle too much and second guess myself. And just why are there so many options, anyway?

ps–I passed on the Versatile Blogger award to you here (http://his-and-hers-blog.blogspot.com/2011/10/passing-on-award-and-divulging-my.html)…if you already have gotten it, that’s okay, but I wanted to share your blog on my blog! 🙂
