good day sunshine – yellow pillowcases

August 12, 2011 5 Comments

We are slowly making our way through the second phase of our renovation. Since I know it will take forever, I’m taking advantage and crossing little decorating projects off of the list to make it feel like we are accomplishing something.
Our family room gets amazing natural light thanks to full glass pane french doors and huge windows facing the West. It’s our favorite room in the house even though it still currently looks pretty ragged.
There is a huge list of major renovation projects to be done to this space and furniture to be purchased but I wanted to add a little extra sunshine in the decor…or lack thereof.
In comes some sunny fabric from SewMamaSew that happened to be on sale when I was browsing for ideas. I threw together four envelope cases to cover the pillows that came with the couches using the same tutorial I tried before. I’m really a novice with the sewing machine and can assure you this is really easy to do.
I used the yellow fabric for the front, backing it with some white kona cotton so I didn’t have to purchase a large amount of the more expensive yellow fabric. Best part about these pillow cases is that with the envelope back you can easily pop them off to throw in the washer, which is a must in a house full of furry creatures.
Lemur is a fan of the yellow pillows and our family room too. Her favorite way to spend the day is lounging in the sun looking out the window. The pillows just help bring that extra bright feeling into the room.
Here is a little sneak peak of the rest of the work we are doing. We’ve hung up some linen curtains and painted the brick white. Well, started painting the brick white. You’ll notice there is still blue painter’s tape in the bottom left of the photo below. Painting brick is torture but that is a story for another day. We’ll get there…one day.

Have you tried anything to bring a little sunshine in your life this summer? Happy Friday!

ohhhh what a cute little kitty. Love her name, too. 🙂 Good idea to use white on the back to save money!

I love the print on those pillows. I’ve been crushing on coral these days. Hopefully my downstairs bath will be done so you can see it soon! What else are you planning for the space? It looks huge!
