this is halloween – pearly pumpkins

September 9, 2011 2 Comments

I’m pretty sure if we do a Halloween party, I’ll do my usual food table and then a candy table. Not sure anyone will really consume that much candy but I’ve always wanted one. Let’s be honest, I just want an excuse to buy a bunch of candy. Yum 🙂

I thought about decorating the tables with some pumpkins and skulls. First up, the pumpkins. Not really cute but they were super cheap!

In comes spray paint – the cure for all things ugly. There is a problem with spray painting small things. Have you ever tried? Small things that don’t weigh much fly around uncontrollably when the spray paint flies towards them. Not really effective for getting good coverage but it is a really effective way of getting covered in spray paint while you try to hold down the pieces.
Skewers save the day! Since these will be sitting on the table and a little hole won’t be noticeable. I skewered them all and set them in the ground. No more flying pumpkins.

I gave them all a coat of primer to get better coverage since I wasn’t really sure if the plastic/foamy consistency needed it.

A couple of coats of pearly white Rustoleum and I have a bunch of pearly pumpkins. Hard to tell in the photo but they have a nice sheen to them.

These will go on display somewhere on our candy and food tables. Not on the skewers, just arranged among the plates and candy display.
So if you have to spray paint something small, consider ways to tie it down somehow to make it easier to get good coverage. It also helps keep your fingers paint free 😉

Pretty, and the skewer idea is genius! I recently spray painted some pumpkins too, great minds must think alike!
