and then there were five!

July 26, 2011 7 Comments

Don’t get excited, I’m not pregnant. We just adopted another cat. Yes, we know we are crazy. Yes, we are now a family of seven – two humans, three mutts and two cats. Five animals! We just couldn’t resist. What can I say…we have big hearts and are suckers for animals in need.
Meet Lemur. Our new 5-month old baby. She was a feral rescued by my best friend, S, as a little one and is now properly vaccinated, spayed and accustomed to the good life of living indoors. We have a soft spot for all of S‘s fosters because we spend a lot of time with them and just started falling in love with her. As you can tell she is ready to be my full-time crafting buddy.
How could we not love her? She’s a beauty with those “eyeliner” eyes and gray and pink nose. She looked strangely like a lemur monkey as a little kitten so the name stuck from when S was fostering her. Anyone looking for some loveable babies should check out Sterilization Superheroes  to see Lemur’s foster sisters and brothers who are available as well as all of S‘s rescue adventures.
The mutts are quite happy with Lemur being here. Dylan is madly in love with her…he’s a strange dog who LOVES cats.  Annie is indifferent. Keeping her distance from Lemur but they are co-existing peacefully.  We are still getting used to having a kitten in our house. I’ve already found Lemur eating a craft project, digging through my craft garbage can for fabric scraps and ribbon as well as sleeping on every thing I try to sew. Gotta love it though. She keeps us laughing all day.
And just in case you are new follower and haven’t met them all before, these are our furry children who are usually collectively referred to as the Mutts.
Our oldest, Dylan. He is now 11 and I’ve had him since he was dumped at 5 weeks old.
Annie, our pirate kitty. She had an eye removed last year but you would never know it. She’s also 11 and was a feral I domesticated as a kitten.
Picture is obviously pre-pirate kitty transformation.
Maggie, is a pound puppy. Rescued when she was about 4 months old. She is our special child….she’s a little crazy but we love her all the same.
Lily is another pound puppy we rescued when she was about a year old. Both her and Maggie are now 5. She looks sweet as can be but she cannot be trusted. She’s the trouble maker and the alpha. At 10 pounds she is the boss.
There you have it. Our crazy bunch. Show me your babies – both furry and the human kind!

You definitely picked a good one to bring home… Lems is the only cat I’ve ever come across that actually has manners! And while I’ll miss her thank you presents, I’m even more thankful to you and Ray (and the rest of the furry freak show) for giving her the best home ever!!! And for letting me visit regularly to stock up on Lemur kisses:)

You have such a wonderful family. I loved Lemur’s eyes. I have always wanted to have a cat as a pet but I know I will just not be able to manage things. Happy to see the pics 🙂

Adorable! Lemur is SUCH a fitting name! We’ve got two pets in our tiny bungalow. There’s Pekoe, originally an unwanted kitten tossed from someone’s car window. He’s been with me for 5 years now, ever since I was in university. And there’s Mocha, the pooch that stole our hearts. She’s 1 and has SO much energy.

I can’t believe I haven’t seen your blog before! Your mutts are adorable, and it’s crazy how much like a lemur Lemur actually looks like. My mutts are smaller, matching Boston Terrier mutts. Toby and Olivia like eating almonds, riding in my bike basket, going to the dog park and laying in patches of sunlight. You can read about them on my blog, BrooklynneBoston.blogspot.com! Also, I saw that you’re big on rescuing animals, as am I! On my blog, I’m chronicling every new foster pup I receive through the Boston Terrier Rescue of North Texas! I am getting a new foster tonight, and she’s 8 months old and her name is Pepper. I’ll have a post up about her by Monday!
