death of a succulent

February 8, 2012 9 Comments

I should have known it wouldn’t last. I killed a succulent. Aren’t they supposed to be hearty little plants? The cute succulent garden I had growing in in the living room is no longer a lively  addition to our space.
Instead, I’m faced with this pathetic sight. Rest in peace little plant. I’m sorry I failed you.

I still think my track record is improving. Two out of three isn’t so bad! They lasted about four months too. That has to be some sort of milestone…at least for me.

I may get “the look” from the hubby but I’m buying a replacement this weekend.

like jeanette, i am pretty sure that all the plants in our yard have a sign up with my picture on it “WANTED: for the murder of several supposedly hearty plants”. i am horrible at keeping things alive- it’s amazing my children are surviving.
    RIP, dude.

So I noticed your soil that you’ve planted your succulent in looks like an orchid mix or something. Have you considered using a soil ment for a little more water retention? I live in Denver and its super dry here, but we just use regular old miracle grow potting soil and out succulents are on steroids. Best of all, we (and by we I really just mean my bf) only water them once a week. Ooh, and keep your eyes open for a succulent called String of Pearls. We have 2 and they’re my fave!

I didn’t think it was possible! Sigh. My succulents probably recoil in fear whenever I go near them…

I wouldn’t admit to plant murder…obviously a succulent “runt”, one that was never meant to be 🙂

Girl, you so crack me up! LOL…I’m with you. I have a BLACK thumb when it comes to indoor plants. Mine never stay alive very long. I feel your pain. Hey, look at it this way, at least they helped bring more oxygen into your home, right?!

I’ve killed at least 5 succulents, in like a year. I guess that makes me a serial succulent killer? It’s truly shameful. I feel your pain.

I’ve killed succulents, cacti (yes, more than one), ponytail palms, you name it. One of the hubs’ BFFs gifted me an orchid two years ago (not knowing of my ‘touch’ with plants). I eyed that poor thing and thought, “well, you’ve reached your final resting place my friend.” Sure ‘nough. *sigh* (my mother, on the other hand, has plants she’s had for years. YEARS.)

I’m a succulent/cacti murderer. I don’t understand it at all. The only plant I haven’t managed to kill is a chili pepper plant. How does that happen?
