My hubby knows I’m handy and can hold my own for most DIY projects but he shudders at the thought of me touching any electrical project. I’ve never done anything that would cause this concern so I just assume he’s being an overprotective husband. Boys. I took advantage that he was preoccupied to tackle the doorbell and thermostat for the air conditioner. Minor electrical components but extremely easy to do if you follow the directions. These were things he has been putting off for weeks and I wanted them out of the way.
The thermostat was broken so we knew it had to be replaced from day one. It is getting warmer and humid so the air needs to start running soon. Yes, I know that sounds crazy in January but remember we live in South Florida – it is going to be in the 80s this week! After some switching around of wires and a bit of trouble-shooting we went from this to this.
Our old doorbell was looking ragged and the button didn’t work. I couldn’t find a new plate in the right size at Home Depot so I bought a new button and then brought out the handy spray paint and had some fun.
Done! And by the way, it does work much to my husband’s surprise 😉 I kept ringing every time I walked in or out the front door today just to annoy him.

Looks great!!! We have to do the thermostat, too. That’s good that you didn’t think it was too hard. Hopefully a couple of rookies like us can handle it!
Directions Not Included says
Super easy! We bought a Honeywell thermostat and it came with clear directions to match up the old wires with the new system. There was a warning that if your current system had certain wires you need an electrician to do it but if not, it was a 20 minute job.

Nice 🙂 Thanks for the tips…we’ll check it out and see if ours is the DIY kind.
