a simple cover up – fabric covered canvas

December 29, 2011 9 Comments

Do you have blank walls you have no idea what to do with? Or maybe like us, you have something you want to cover up quickly and cheaply? This is such an easy project and I’m really happy with how it came out.
Looks like a nice print or painting, right? It is a fabric covered canvas. All that was needed was a canvas in the desired size, enough fabric to cover it with a few inches to spare on each side and a staple gun.

This is the view of our family room towards the main part of the house. This was taken during our crazy renovations last week so excuse the ladder and random suplies scattered about. Nice stained glass window which actually belongs to our pink and blue bathroom (see the evidence here) we have there…so stylish.

It isn’t real. It is a window from our bathroom into our family room but the stained glass look is actually a sticker. What were they thinking? We need to close in the window completely but it requires a bit more work than we could handle last week.

I was trying to come up with a quick painting to throw over it until my best friend had with the great idea and mentioned canvas. I bought a large canvas with a coupon at Michael’s. Grabbed some fabric I had on hand from IKEA and went crazy with the staple gun.

It took less than 10 minutes and the stained glass window is gone and is replaced with an interesting piece of art.

Here is a shot of the space during a party we had this week. The space looks so much more finished, right?

I love that this is such a versatile project. You can use any size canvas or combinations of canvases and any fabric of your choice. Do you have anything you want to cover up or a blank wall that needs some love? Give this a try for an inexpensive but fun project.

Love this idea! We have a hideous wall AC unit that I might try to cover up with this same idea! Found you through my friend Beth’s blog, Unskinny Boppy. 🙂

looks great! and definitely something i am going to keep in mind for a future project.

we had a window into our sunroom from our hall bath. we turned it into a niche in the sunroom, and it was drywalled over in the bathroom redo. SO much better, lol.
