Have you met Julia from Cuckoo 4 Design yet? If not, you have to check out her blog. She is the sweetest and has amazing style. If you follow me on any of my social media handles, you probably saw me share a link to my guest post on her blog last weekend. If not, here is a chance to know how I ended up with 5 furry creatures I live with. Well, 6 if you count Ray, but I'm not talking about him... This post is all about how these scruffy little ones came into my life, and how I still manage to … [Read more...]
corporate office decorating – typographic artwork
One of the things I mentioned in my previous post about my side job as a corporate office decorator, was the need for artwork for our walls. With a full blank slate to work with we needed something to add life to our space. Luckily, I run the in-house creative team. It is quite a fun job to direct three talented designers on a variety of projects. Fun stuff like office decorating, makes it even better. Two of my very talented designers worked with me on the posters and other design features … [Read more...]
the ultimate garage sale score – broyhill brasilia sideboard
As I hinted earlier this week here or on Instagram. I found it. I finally, finally found it. I had been on the search for a midcentury dresser or sideboard to use as a media center for years. I've always been a thrift store failure so I never expected to find something worthwhile. I had a piece I picked up that we used temporarily, but it wasn't big enough, wasn't solid wood, and overall was a bit of a disappointment. But this is it. I actually found a Broyhill Brasilia sideboard (or dresser … [Read more...]
just a little color – painted midcentury modern furniture

I honestly struggled with this piece so much. I bought it a few years ago for less than $25. It was beat up and not solid wood. It sat in its natural beat up state for a very long time but it needed help. … [Read more...]
buff and shine – diy modern coffee table
The hubs and I have been living together for over 10 years. When we moved into our first house we were dirt broke and just dealt with the furniture we had, or whatever we could scrounge up. I really, really, really wanted modern coffee and side tables from Room and Board. I had specifically fallen for a certain design that I was sure would be perfect for our space. All fine and dandy until I realized there is no was no way I could afford those in real life. This is where I am happy I married my … [Read more...]
scott olson painting in my house – and update to our ikea hack bar
Picture me doing a happy dance because I am doing an awkward one right now. This Cuban can't dance by the way. Once we refinished the bar area, we knew we wanted artwork or something to anchor the space. I used our IKEA hack bar all the time for parties or as my mantle for holidays. Using the bar as a buffet was perfect use for it but the space was so bare. For a while I was set on using a mirror at the top but Ray was not having it. I honestly thought it would be possible to find a painting or … [Read more...]
