time for a little tour – house tour

April 12, 2011 5 Comments

I’ve been traveling quite a bit the last few weeks for work so I haven’t had any time for house projects. I thought it would be a good time to do a little tour to show you what we started with. I hope to follow up in the next post with some during shots of the major work we did the first month in.

Most of these might have come from the actual listing and our first walk through. What can’t be captured in these photos is the overwhelming filth (dirt, dust and overall grime) that caked every surface of this house, the termite damage and the smell of dirty neglected house. The previous owners were elderly snowbirds that did not maintain the house at all.

The front exterior.

Dining room looking towards the back of the house.
Bar area leading off of dining and kitchen. Three different floors coverings and heights. You know you the love the pink Cuban tile.

Family room in the back of the house with dropped ceiling tiles and litterbox.
Stunning original kitchen with hand-painted cabinet art.
Front living room with termite-damaged floors.

Master bedroom along the back side of the house. Gotta love old smelly carpet.
Master bathroom. The most beautiful room in the house included carpet on the floor. For the record, the tile is metallic dark brown with pink accents tiles.
Hall bathroom with stained glass window leading into the family room.To think this is my “pretty bathroom”.
Guest bathroom. Also known as the “Pirate Bathroom”.
Guest bedroom.
Spare room currently acting as master bedroom.
Office/craft room.

Patio and overgrown yard.

I look back at these photos and I can’t believe how much we’ve done since December 21st, 2010. I can’t wait to see what it will look like December 21st, 2011.

April – so glad you found us! We were specifically looking for a house with “old Florida charm”. We are down in Miami-Dade County. Where were you from?
