lay of the land – our floor plan

December 2, 2011 5 Comments

I don’t know about you but every time I look at the houses of bloggers if a floor plan is not available I’m always trying to figure out how the rooms are laid out. It must be the genes I get from my architect father, but I always want to know which rooms are connected to which. It really helps gauge the style of the house and flow of the design.

My father might kill me for posting this horrendous floor plan but I don’t have the energy to sit down and try make a perfect one. This one may be off a few inches here or there. That might explain why I changed majors after only a term or two…

This is our house.

The gray shaded areas are our four bedrooms and are labeled according to their usage. The master is the future master bedroom suite, we currently live in the room labeled extra until the renovation is complete The blue shaded rooms are the bathrooms and anything shaded yellow is a closet.

In the coming weeks, I hope to show some of areas of the house that haven’t made it on to the blog much yet. I figured the floor plan would help make sense of our space. In case you have missed any previous posts, these are the rooms with the biggest transformations so far. Please remember with the exception of the craft room, none of the rooms are actually done they just look a hell of a lot better than they did when we moved in.

  • The bathroom formerly known as the pirate bathroom
  • Bar
  • And the patio isn’t a room but it still counts as progress
Every inch of this house has needed some kind of work. Now that we are nearing the one year anniversary of buying this house it is good for my sanity to recap how far we have actually come. DIY on a budget is slow and exhausting but so worth it.

Stay tuned for some big reveals and other major projects in the works. We are hosting a few parties around the holidays and early next year so the motivation is high!

And don’t forget to enter the Pick Your Plum giveaway! It is open until Monday 🙂

Great idea! We spent 5 years on our remodel and I was showing rooms but never the floor plan. I should do that. I also now realize I never finished showing all the rooms! Big surprise that I forgot what I was doing 🙂
How lucky you have a craft room and a studio, most excellent. Can you only access the family room from outside?

Eeek! I told you my architect father would kill me for this floor plan. I just replaced the photo. That “wall” was not supposed to be a wall. It is actually a step down. It can be accessed from the inside. Thanks for catching that!

Oh, your have a dedicated craft room! That’s awesome. I have a craft coffee table…not quite as awesome. I love the idea of posting a floor plan, young house love is always showing theirs and it helps so much in understanding a house.
