getting somewhere – family room update

Family_Room_July_5

The never-ending room remodel. That is exactly how I feel about our family room update. Yes, I know we are STILL not in our master bedroom after three years but the master isn't used. We use this space all.the.time. I love this room. It is one of the reasons we fell in love with this house, but I want it DONE! We are not done, but we are definitely getting somewhere. Here is the space today with some of our most recent updates including the new windows (hurricane impact ones! woohoo!), the Henry … [Read more...]

the side job – corporate office decorating – the befores

DSC_7368

Let me tell you something about myself, you may already know. I tend to take on more than I should and I have a really hard time telling people no. That will explain the craziness I embarked on last year at my day job. Our office was relatively new and completely white. Not an ounce of personality, nothing to make it ours. Considering our culture, the office didn't fit. Our execs were considering paying some over-priced and out of touch designers to give the space some life (I'm not saying all … [Read more...]

the ultimate garage sale score – broyhill brasilia sideboard

Broyhill Brasilia Sideboard3

As I hinted earlier this week here or on Instagram. I found it. I finally, finally found it. I had been on the search for a midcentury dresser or sideboard to use as a media center for years. I've always been a thrift store failure so I never expected to find something worthwhile. I had a piece I picked up that we used temporarily, but it wasn't big enough, wasn't solid wood, and overall was a bit of a disappointment. But this is it. I actually found a Broyhill Brasilia sideboard (or dresser … [Read more...]

just a little color – painted midcentury modern furniture

Painted Midcentury Modern Furniture - Directions Not Included

Adding a little color helps, right? I'm all for maintaing the classic appeal and natural finish of MCM furniture, but sometimes painted Midcentury modern furniture is the way to go. I honestly struggled with this piece so much. I bought it a few years ago for less than $25. It was beat up and not solid wood. It sat in its natural beat up state for a very long time but it needed help. … [Read more...]

buff and shine – diy modern coffee table

Refinished Modern Coffee Table - Directions Not Included

The hubs and I have been living together for over 10 years. When we moved into our first house we were dirt broke and just dealt with the furniture we had, or whatever we could scrounge up. I really, really, really wanted modern coffee and side tables from Room and Board. I had specifically fallen for a certain design that I was sure would be perfect for our space. All fine and dandy until I realized there is no was no way I could afford those in real life.┬áThis is where I am happy I married my … [Read more...]

and behind this door – florida room plans

Family_Room2

I love my husband. I really do. But there are times that I want to make him sleep outside. Our family room (or Florida room because that is technically what it is) makes me want him in the yard overnight. Not even with the dogs because I would never let them sleep outside ;) The family room has been one of the projects that has slowly driven me crazy since we moved in. We've made a ton of progress from its original state but I just need it done. … [Read more...]
