this is halloween – pearly pumpkins

September 9, 2011 2 Comments

I'm pretty sure if we do a Halloween party, I'll do my usual food table and then a candy table. Not sure anyone will really consume that much candy but I've always wanted one. Let's be honest, I just want an excuse to buy a bunch of candy. Yum :) I thought about decorating the tables with some pumpkins and skulls. First up, the pumpkins. Not really cute but they were super cheap! In comes spray paint - the cure for all things ugly. There is a problem with spray painting small things. Have you … [Read more...]

cheers! a simple engagement present

September 8, 2011 3 Comments

Engagements are a time to celebrate. Our good friends, I and M, are newly engaged so I decided to dress up a little bottle of champagne for the occasion. Standard bottles of bubbly are pretty but I wanted to personalize the gift.  I'm not a fan of gold and had some silver stickers to use so silver spray paint was in order. I taped up the edge of the label and covered the bottom of the bottle with a plastic bag.I was not the neatest with my tape work around the edge so I had some paint seeping … [Read more...]

this is halloween – tile coasters

September 2, 2011 17 Comments

When I was making my first set of paper decorated tile coasters, I knew I was going to make sets for the holidays. They are a quick way to add a little holiday decor to your home.  White square tiles are only 16 cents a piece at my local Home Depot. Couple that with some decorative paper, felt for the bottoms and Mod Podge and you have another cheap craft to try.I picked out a few different papers from my Halloween stash to use for a set of six coasters. I cut them down to size using a ruler and … [Read more...]

a little celebration – paper bunting tutorial

August 29, 2011 4 Comments

I love bunting. It makes it feel like a little celebration is happening wherever it is. ViaViaViaIt is so simple to make these banners with paper so I thought I would add a little celebration to my craft room. I'm in the middle of finishing an update to my entire craft room, which I'll share as soon as I'm done organizing it. In the meantime, here is a simple bunting tutorial to try.Pick your selection of coordinating papers and make yourself a template with cardstock. Since I was just making a … [Read more...]

this is halloween – halloween stash

August 26, 2011 6 Comments

Halloween has officially hit the stores. I've been dreaming of Halloween for weeks already, so now I'm even more excited that I get to indulge in it every time I go out. I may have already spotted some Christmas decor out as well but I'm not going to think about that yet. Why can't the stores stick to one holiday at a time? Our new neighborhood actually has kids in it and is a well-known area for trick-or-treating. We lived in our old house for 8 years and had maybe 5 trick-or-treaters. Yes, I … [Read more...]

washer art – part 2

August 22, 2011 21 Comments

After I posted about my washer monogram art, my lovely assistant in Chicago decided she wanted one for her new apartment. We share the same last initial so it was fun to try another version. As a reminder, here is the original one I made for our house in a small 5 x 7 frame. Simple and modern, which fits our style. I went a little more traditional with the font selection for hers. I printed out the M to fit on a 11 X 14 flat canvas so she could easily put it in any frame that matched her decor. I … [Read more...]
