Have you seen Crate and Barrel's new catalog? They are debuting some new styles and I have to say, I'm really loving it. I especially like the trip into the 1950s style. All images via Crate and BarrelI'd love to have our house sprinkled with more original mid-century pieces but sometimes they are not the in budget or the right piece can't be found. It is nice to see the style cropping up as new furniture now too.Do you have any favorites out in the stores lately? Thanks for following Directions … [Read more...]
washer art – part 2
After I posted about my washer monogram art, my lovely assistant in Chicago decided she wanted one for her new apartment. We share the same last initial so it was fun to try another version. As a reminder, here is the original one I made for our house in a small 5 x 7 frame. Simple and modern, which fits our style. I went a little more traditional with the font selection for hers. I printed out the M to fit on a 11 X 14 flat canvas so she could easily put it in any frame that matched her decor. garden time – diy orchid garden
I love orchids. They are among my favorite flowers and they do so well in Florida so we've collected quite a few. We had our orchids beautifully displayed in our old home but unfortunately, ever since we moved they’ve been sitting in the shade on a fold out table. Lovely set up, right? I should correct myself…they are my husband’s orchids. I kill them. I kill all plants. Plants don’t bark or meow to remind me to feed them. My furry kids are well taken care of, spoiled actually, but plants I’m … [Read more...]
good day sunshine – yellow pillowcases
We are slowly making our way through the second phase of our renovation. Since I know it will take forever, I'm taking advantage and crossing little decorating projects off of the list to make it feel like we are accomplishing something. Our family room gets amazing natural light thanks to full glass pane french doors and huge windows facing the West. It's our favorite room in the house even though it still currently looks pretty ragged. There is a huge list of major renovation projects to be … [Read more...]
this is halloween
Is it too early for Halloween ideas? I hope not because I am already planning. Halloween is my favorite holiday. Love it. I've been threatening the hubby for years that once we had a big enough house, holiday decorating would be a big deal for me. I think he thought I was joking until I came home with more Halloween ribbon...last week. I told you I had a ribbon problem.I'm working on him to host a big Halloween party. If we get good traction on our second phase of renovations by the beginning of … [Read more...]
feeling domesticated
When she was alive my maternal grandmother used to tell me I wasn't marriage material. I didn't know how to cook and I didn't sew. She was sure no man wanted me. I rebelled against that for many years because...well, I'm the workaholic business-type not the sewing and cooking type. The thing is in reality I am both. I have the big corporate job for a global company and I'm working on my MBA but I am a pretty damn good cook and just learned how to sew. Maybe I am more domesticated than I thought … [Read more...]
