I've been traveling quite a bit the last few weeks for work so I haven't had any time for house projects. I thought it would be a good time to do a little tour to show you what we started with. I hope to follow up in the next post with some during shots of the major work we did the first month in. Most of these might have come from the actual listing and our first walk through. What can't be captured in these photos is the overwhelming filth (dirt, dust and overall grime) that caked every … [Read more...]
be our guest – guestroom reveal
We've never had a proper guest room since our last house only had two bedrooms. Our guests used to be crammed in a tiny room with a full bed, large desk, dresser, bookcase and cat furniture all jammed in one room. Doesn't exactly sound inviting, does it? With our new space, I set out to remedy the situation since we are expecting guests at the end of April. My dear friend Patti's husband, Bill, is coming to visit. Our first official guest in the new house. This is what we started with. Original … [Read more...]
what happened to spring?
I admit, living in South Florida I’m quite spoiled in terms of weather. I landed in Chicago yesterday and will be here most of the week on business. It is in the 30s in March. I thought it was spring?! I’m not prepared for this. Thankfully, I own a wool coat and boots but the rest of my wardrobe is seriously lacking for this weather. I will be locked up in a conference room most of the time in the Aon Center where our corporate office is so I should stay pretty warm. At least it is a great … [Read more...]
getting closer to a real kitchen
Countertop time! We've had plenty of time to think about what type of countertops we wanted given that we bought our cabinets January 1st. Slow and steady wins the race, right? After some research we went for quartz, specifically CaesarStone. Our personal preference lead us to this design-wise since there was less variation in the pieces in terms of color and the textural appearance. While granite and marble are beautiful and many people love the variety in them, it wasn't for us. The plus side … [Read more...]
etsy crushes
Etsy is weakness of mine. So much to love and not enough money or space for it all. My current crushes:jeramiahcollection - Simple and stunning handmade furniture from a small San Francisco shop. I wish I had the budget for this credenza for our bar/dining area. Via SKTCeramics - My best friend gave me a necklace for Christmas from this shop. I love the simple lines and the feel of the porcelaine. Via BethSatterlee - A fabulous illustrator and fine artist with a great hand. She does … [Read more...]
wrapping it all up
I hate gift bags. Yes, I use them in a pinch especially around the holidays but I much rather wrap a gift with some nice wrapping paper or try and do something a tad more creative (bonus if it is useful) in terms or containing the gift. Target carries these sand pails and I've used them a few times for baby/kid gifts. They come in a variety of colors to work with all sorts of themes. This latest one was for a dear friend who just welcomed her third bundle of joy.First you start with your stash … [Read more...]
