I've been traveling quite a bit the last few weeks for work so I haven't had any time for house projects. I thought it would be a good time to do a little tour to show you what we started with. I hope to follow up in the next post with some during shots of the major work we did the first month in. Most of these might have come from the actual listing and our first walk through. What can't be captured in these photos is the overwhelming filth (dirt, dust and overall grime) that caked every … [Read more...]
be our guest – guestroom reveal
We've never had a proper guest room since our last house only had two bedrooms. Our guests used to be crammed in a tiny room with a full bed, large desk, dresser, bookcase and cat furniture all jammed in one room. Doesn't exactly sound inviting, does it? With our new space, I set out to remedy the situation since we are expecting guests at the end of April. My dear friend Patti's husband, Bill, is coming to visit. Our first official guest in the new house. This is what we started with. Original … [Read more...]
getting closer to a real kitchen
Countertop time! We've had plenty of time to think about what type of countertops we wanted given that we bought our cabinets January 1st. Slow and steady wins the race, right? After some research we went for quartz, specifically CaesarStone. Our personal preference lead us to this design-wise since there was less variation in the pieces in terms of color and the textural appearance. Kitchen progress
These pesky little things called work and grad school suck up too much time so we haven't been able to spend a few solid days on the kitchen. This has dragged on the kitchen remodel a bit longer that anticipated. We are doing all the kitchen ourselves with the exception of installing the countertops and some electrical and plumbing work. I should rephrase that, I have been doing most of the kitchen myself and the hubby has helped with just the heavy lifting to install the top cabinets and the … [Read more...]
pet crafts: how to help build a patio
The mutts thought it would be helpful to give a tutorial for all those DIY pets out there. They were instrumental in helping us get the yard a little more presentable. Do your pets help out on your projects? ***Step 1: Roll in the dirt bowl in the backyard every single day to ensure Mommy and Daddy understand that fixing up the yard should move up on the priority to-do list. Step 2: Supervise the placement of each paver to make sure you approve the location and spacing. After all, your little … [Read more...]
working 9 to 5 – craft room
I work full time in a demanding corporate job and also decided to take the plunge and start an MBA program last summer. Having a dedicated and organized space for all the work and school stuff going on was a top priority. I also love crafting so having a full room for all of this is a huge treat. Somehow I managed to convince the hubby that the first room is the house that had to be 90% done would be the office/craft room. Yes, even before the kitchen...I have my priorities straight ;)Our story … [Read more...]
